Implement D Latch

Question

Problem: Implement D Latch. Solve this hands-on electronics task on EWskills.

Accepted Answer

Excitation Tables: An excitation table specifies the minimum inputs required to change a sequential circuit from the present state (Q_n) to the desired next state (Q_n+1). Unlike a truth table, it determines the inputs needed for a given state transition.

JK Flip-Flop Excitation Table: The required J and K inputs for each state transition are defined by the JK excitation table.

Q_n	Q_n+1	J	K
0	0	0	X
0	1	1	X
1	0	X	1
1	1	X	0

Converting JK to D Flip-Flop: A D flip-flop follows Q = D.

D = 0: Set J = 0 and K = 1 to force the next state to 0.
D = 1: Set J = 1 and K = 0 to force the next state to 1.

Hardware Implementation: Connect J directly to D and K to D′ using a NOT gate. This removes the JK flip-flop's Hold and Toggle modes, making it operate as a single-input D flip-flop when EN is active.
