7. MELF Resistor Selection

1. Component Purpose

The sensor interface uses a voltage divider to scale down a sensor signal before feeding it to the ADC. If the divider resistors drift with temperature or have poor tolerance, the measured voltage will be inaccurate — leading to wrong sensor readings.

A MELF (Metal Electrode Leadless Face) resistor is a cylindrical SMD package known for better precision, lower noise, and more stable temperature performance compared to standard chip resistors. This makes it ideal for precision analog circuits.

Required: 10kΩ · ±0.5% · ≥0.25W · MELF · ±50ppm/°C · −55°C to +125°C · RoHS

2. How to Find It on DigiKey

Go to DigiKey.com → Resistors → Chip Resistor - Surface Mount

Apply these filters:

  • Resistance → 10 kOhms
  • Tolerance → ±0.5% or tighter
  • Power (Watts) → 0.25W or higher
  • Package / Case → MELF (any MELF variant)
  • Temperature Coefficient → ±50ppm/°C or better
  • Part Status → Active

Tip: On DigiKey, MELF packages may appear as MiniMELF (0204), MELF (0207), or MicroMELF (0102). Check which size fits your PCB footprint. If no size is specified, standard MELF (0207) is the most common.
