46. MOV for 24VDC Industrial Bus Surge Protection

Rohit is designing an industrial sensor interface board powered from a 24VDC bus

The bus runs through a factory floor with long cable runs and is exposed to electrical noise and voltage transients from nearby motors and solenoids.

To protect the board input from DC surge spikes, he needs to place a Metal Oxide Varistor (MOV) across the 24V input rail

The MOV must safely handle 24VDC continuous without conducting, and should clamp transient spikes to a safe level.

The clamping voltage should be low enough to actually protect 24V circuit components, so the MOV voltage rating must not be too high.

He wants a through-hole disc type MOV.

The company's approved vendor list (AVL) specifies Littelfuse for circuit protection components, so the part must be selected from Littelfuse on DigiKey.
