The board draws up to 2A from a 5V USB supply. If a component fails or a solder bridge creates a short, the current can spike far beyond 2A — damaging USB traces, connectors, and components.
An SMD board-mount fuse in series with the input permanently disconnects the power path during a sustained overcurrent fault, protecting the board.
Fuse Rating Calculation (75% Derating Rule):
Fuses are typically derated to 75% of their rated current for reliable continuous operation.
Required fuse rating = Load current ÷ 0.75 = 2A ÷ 0.75 = 2.67A
Nearest standard fuse value = 3A
Required: Board Mount · 3A · ≥32VDC · Fast Blow · 1206 · SMD · Littelfuse · RoHS

Tip: A fast-blow fuse is correct here because USB loads do not have large inrush currents. You want the fuse to react quickly during a short circuit.
| Specification | Required | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Fuse Type | Board Mount | Soldered on PCB; no external holder needed. |
| Current Rating | 3A | 2A load + 75% derating rule. |
| Voltage Rating | ≥32VDC | Standard for low-voltage DC board fuses. |
| Response Time | Fast Blow | Quick disconnect; no inrush to tolerate. |
| Package | 1206 | Compact SMD; fits standard PCB layouts. |
| Manufacturer | Littelfuse | Company AVL requirement. |
| RoHS | Yes | Compliance required. |
The filtered list will show matching parts. Before you pick one, check: Is it Active? Is stock available? Is a datasheet available?
