3-Bit Synchronous Custom Sequence Generator

Question

Problem: 3-Bit Synchronous Custom Sequence Generator. Solve this hands-on electronics task on EWskills.

Accepted Answer

Random Sequence Generator: The circuit generates the fixed 3-bit sequence:

000 → 110 → 010 → 101 → 111 → 100 → 011 → 001 → 000

Core Design: It is a synchronous sequential circuit using three T flip-flops. Combinational logic generates T2, T1, and T0 from the present state (Q2, Q1, Q0), and all flip-flops update simultaneously on each clock edge.

Circuit Design: The circuit consists of:

Three edge-triggered T flip-flops driven by a common CLK.
Combinational logic implementing:
T2 = Q0’
T1 = (Q2 ⊕ Q1) + (Q2 ⊕ Q0)’
T0 = Q2 ⊕ Q1 ⊕ Q0
The flip-flop outputs (Q2, Q1, Q0) form the 3-bit output.

Circuit Operation: On each clock edge, the combinational logic determines which flip-flops toggle, advancing the circuit to the next state. After 001, the sequence returns to 000, repeating continuously.

Introduction to FSM: The circuit is a Finite State Machine (FSM), where flip-flops store the current state and combinational logic determines the next state.

FSM Classification: It is an autonomous Moore machine because there are no external inputs besides the clock, and the outputs depend only on the current state.
