75. P-Channel MOSFET for High-Side Power Switch

Meera is designing an embedded system and wants the 3.3V MCU to switch 5V power to a peripheral communication module.

The module draws up to 300mA.

She decides to use a P-Channel MOSFET as a high-side switch on the 5V rail.

When the MCU GPIO goes LOW, the MOSFET turns ON and powers the module. When GPIO goes HIGH, the MOSFET turns OFF.

The MOSFET must turn ON fully with a 5V Vgs, so the gate threshold must be well below 5V.

She wants an SOT-23 SMD package for compact layout.

Help her select a suitable P-Channel MOSFET from DigiKey.

Make sure it has a low gate threshold voltage for reliable switching, low Rds(on) for minimal voltage drop, and can handle the load current safely.
